We come back to the weekly segment: Weekly Music News With The Music Man.  Sorry that I’m a bit late on this one. The lovely act of procrastination got to me.

So, a few things have occured over the week, including the announcement of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary bash. Let’s start with something a bit more somber though.

The Beastie Boys announced through a Youtube video that Adam Yauch, a.k.a MCA, has cancer in the Parotid gland in his neck. Due to this, the rapping trio will have to delay the release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1. They will also have to cancel all of their upcoming concerts. Adam says there is no need to worry though, as this cancer is very “treatable”. He will undergo surgery and radiation treatment soon. And, he has said that this cancer will not affect his voice.

Opinion: Well, I love the Beastie Boys. The fact that they’re delaying the album saddens me. But, I wish the best of luck to MCA and I hope that his recovery is quick.

Speaking of music stars recovering, guitarist Eddie Van Halen is currently recovering from hand surgery to treat increasing pain in his left hand. Van Halen says that while touring, he started developing pain in his thumb and pinky. The guitarist sought out doctors in Germany after the pain got so bad that he couldn’t play guitar at all. Specialists discovered a bone spur, twisted tendon and a cyst in the joint of his left thumb. Van Halen told Rolling Stone, ““They said the only way to fix it was surgery, which of course scared the shit out of me, but I was told it was the only way to fix it. Surgery was a success, now I just have to let it heal. I am totally jazzed that they found the problem, fixed it and in about four months my hand will feel like I am 18 again. Thank God.” The guitarist is recovering, slowly but surely, and his rehabilitation will end in four to six months.

Opinion: To Eddie, I also wish the best and hope the recovery is quick. That way, you can get straight back to shredding on the guitar! Rock on, Eddie and let’s hope that hand is back in shape soon.

In other news, legends of rock will be attending a landmark two-night concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Bruce Springsteen, U2, Eric Clapton, and Metallica are among the rockers that have been confirmed for the show that will be held at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Over the days of October 29th and October 30th, the shows will display Hall of Fame acts will share the spotlight with guests and collaborators, and retrace the roots of rock in the process. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Friends, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder will perform on October 29th, while Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Metallica and U2 will take the stage on October 30th. The shows will be cut into one highlight special airing on HBO.

Opinion: Yeah!!!!!! Party in Madison Square Garden! I’m excited about this. I definitely can’t wait to watch the highlights on HBO. Though, I wish they could show the entire thing. That would be awesome if they could. Really, I’m excited about Clapton and Metallica the most.

And that’s all for this edition. More for the next edition, which won’t be too long away. I’m the Music Man, and that’s the way we (at least I) roll.
